FINAL OSCAR NOMINATION PREDICTIONS – 2020 ACADEMY AWARDS

Well, ladies and gentlemen, the day is finally upon us. Tomorrow marks the day that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will unveil their nominations for the 92nd Annual Academy Awards (aka the 2020 Oscars), celebrating the best in movies with the biggest awards show dedicated to their craft and content. We’ve already seen some major changes take place since my last update; Taron Egerton has moved into the Best Actor category after a Golden Globe win and SAG nomination, Lupita Nyong’o has moved into Best Actress with a SAG nomination to back her up, Bombshell is a no-show in all but three categories now, Downton Abbey drops out the race completely, Universal Studios cancelled their own For Your Consideration campaign for Cats, and in a twist most of us didn’t anticipate, 1917 has taken the Golden Globe for Best Picture Drama right out from under The Irishman’s nose (Sam Mendes, who co-wrote and directed the WWI piece, also won Best Director). This is one of the most competitive Oscar races in quite some time; any number of great films are deserving of recognition in each category, but there are only 5 spots to go around for each category except Best Picture (which has 10 slots but rarely, if ever, fills all of them). With all that in mind, I’m gonna put my stake in the ground now, and declare these to be my definitive picks for the films and people the Academy will choose to nominate in 2020. (You can follow along to see if I’m right by joining me on Instagram – @JakeJonesSWR – tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. EST as I live-stream my reaction to the official announcement.) Now, without further ado, here are my final Oscar nomination predictions! (Disclaimer: Wildcard selections are possible nominees, but do not count as definitive picks.
